I Have always been on a team and participating in a sports program of some sort. My parents got me involved with soccer and flag football at a very young age. I really love the sport of football and played Pop Warner Football for 3 years. I had plans to play my Freshman year however due to a death of a team mate from a concussion; Valley Christian was forced to shut down the football program.
My Basketball passion really took off my Freshman year and I fell in love with the sport. I play every opportunity I get whether it’s shooting on my own court, playing a game of pickup with buddies, playing at our local 3 on 3 Hoop Fest event and of course any opportunity in my high school gym.
My coaches and team mates have honored my with the “Total Release” award for past 3 years. This award is for my passion and work ethic on the court, playing to the best of my abilities, pushing myself and challenging my team mates to give it their all. I give 100% at every practice and every game.
You will see in my Academic profile that I am a conscientious student and I apply the same work ethic in the class room as I do on the court.
I started Track my Freshman year as well. This really was with the intension to stay in shape for both football and basketball. I found out that I like to run and have a pretty good endurance threshold.
My Freshman year of track I took first in the 800 meter, 1600 meter and 3200 meter races at our 1B/2B State championships. My Sophomore year I took first in the 800 meter, 3200 meter and 2nd in 1600 meter. During my Sophomore year I had the privilege of a running team mate that pushed me and encouraged me beyond what had been my best times to date.
Goals: My goal is to take the SAT this spring and focus the remainder of my Junior year on improving my academic standings. I currently maintain an “A” – “B” average in all subjects with the exception of Math. I challenge myself here.
My Senior year will allow me to preview college opportunities, focus on core college related studies and strive to help bring another Regional and hopefully and State championship to our basketball program.
Its Track season and I love the new routine of core strengthening and being outdoors. I am looking forward to challenging my times and improving my overall performance on the track. I want to have another opportunity standing on the State Championship podium.
College Plans: With Athletics being my passion I look forward to pursuing a career where I can continue to participate at the college level in both basketball and track. I plan to study Sports Medicine and work toward being an Athletic trainer.
I maintain a high standard of work ethic and sportsmanship. I look forward to partnering with a college where I can pursue my dreams and continue my academic studies at a high level of excellence.
Thank you for taking the time to preview my profile. I look forward to speaking with you.
Sincerely,
Grant D. Marchant
