My name is Jessica Hawkinson and I am in the class of 2015, currently as a blended student through Central High School in La Crosse, Wisconsin where I am taking morning classes on campus and the rest of my courses online.
I started playing hockey in 2005. I began playing the goalie position in 2006. I played boys hockey for my first 5 years with Tornado Youth Hockey. We went to the Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association State Tournament four consecutive years. As an 8th grader I played with Coulee Region Girls and we finished third at the WAHA State Tournament.
In the 2011-2012 season, I was the goalie on the Madison Capitols U-14 AAA team while attending Onalaska High School. Our Capitols team competed against many of the best U-14 teams in the US and we placed second in WAHA Tier 1 State tournament. Overall, I would say I had a lot of personal, as well as team success with the Capitols and I hoped to have more during my career with Culver.
During my years of hockey, my teams have gone to State 7 times. I had high hopes of just as much success at Culver Academy. I left Culver Academy in January 2014 after receiving a concussion that took me out of the season the first weekend of games. I have decided to not play hockey after that concussion.
Aside from hockey, I also play lacrosse. My position is attack. I have turned my focus on lacrosse since leaving my dream of playing hockey.
Outside of sports, I have a strong interest in Spanish. At Onalaska High School, I was in their Spanish Club. I also have interests in math and science classes. I greatly enjoy being able to use my creative skills to problem solve and to create different projects. In 8th grade, I was recognized as the "Most Involved" student. I participated in Yearbook, WEB, Walkin' and Wheelin' Wednesday's, and I also helped organize and create our 8th Grade Recognition Video. While yes, sports are huge to me, I love each and every aspect of school. I love being challenged, problem solving, and helping out others. I was involved at Culver Academy just as I was at Onalaska, both in sports and extra curricular activities, until returning home in January 2014. My plan is to become involved in organizations during my senior year at Central High School.
