Jake Colombo '13 Recruiting Profile

I am a 6'1" senior from Cave Creek, Arizona attending Cactus Shadows High School. In my spring 2012 season I was at the top of the pitching rotation and the starting catcher. I was recently selected to the 2013 Under Armour Pre Season All-American tournament and prior to my junior season, I was named to the USA Pre Season High School Underclassmen All American team by Perfect Game. As a sophomore, I was on the varsity team as a starting pitcher and a catcher. My record was 4-0 and I was awarded "The Coach's Award" as the top young gun. This fall I played for the Angels Senior Scout Team as a pitcher and catcher, however I am transitioning from catcher to first base while continuing to be a top rotation pitcher. I am going to become an even better infielder than I was a catcher with my hard work and hours of practice along with my determination. At the same time I will be helping the young and upcoming sophomore catcher get ready for his first varsity season. Over the summer I attended major showcase events where I was named as a "Top prospect" after attending the Sunshine West Showcase in June 2012. In addition, I worked out reguarly with my position coach Chad Moeller (ex MLB catcher) on catching, pitching and hitting. On my club team (summer/fall 2011) the Arizona Valley Dogs I was a pitcher, catcher and played first base. We had a phenomenal season winning 3 major tournaments including playing in the West Regional Finals. I am looking to continue my baseball career by playing in college at the highest competition level possible while making an impact on the team. At the same time, I am interested in earning my degree in sports medicine. Living in Arizona I am most familiar with the western part of the country but I am open to opportunities that are a mutual good fit in different parts of the US. I believe my knowledge of the game along with my leadership skills and all around hard work have positioned me well to become a student athlete at the next level.
