Matthew Merritt '25 Recruiting Profile

My name is Matthew Merritt, and I am currently in the graduating class of 2025 at Valley Christian High School in Chandler, AZ.  I play all outfield positions, and my primary position is a right-handed pitcher, along with being a right-handed hitter. I was recommended by a former MLB player to The L.A. Angels Amateur Scout Team in Tempe, AZ. Through my club teams, I have traveled to other cities and competed against other top performing players in my age bracket. 

I am continually striving to improve and perform at the highest level with a never give up attitude.  My parents put me through 7 years of MMA, which has taught me discipline, focus and mental toughness. Whether at practice or during a game, I always bring my 'A' game to the field because I've learned that how you practice is how you play. I am determined, coachable and an encouraging team player who understands that commitment and hard work from both myself and my teammates is important to doing our best both on and off the field.  As a pitcher, my parents made sure I was aware of how important mechanics and proper arm care are to the position. Year round, I work on functional strength, push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, etc. along with a regiment of stretching and core work. Additionally, I work out and practice 6 days a week doing hitting and pitching drills, always being aware of arm health. 

I would enjoy the opportunity to play at the collegiate level and beyond and will continue to improve both physically and mentally for any coach or team I get the privilege to play for.  My school interests are to either study sports management, business/ finance or something in the field of biology. I look forward to attending a school where I will learn and be challenged, both academically and in baseball. I enjoy making a positive difference in other's lives and I give back to my community by volunteering at my church and helping to be a positive role model to young children.
