Hello coaches! I'd like to take a few minutes and share with you a little about who I am and why I want to play baseball at the collegiate level. My name is Tyler Candito and I'm entering my senior year at Sabino High School in Tucson, Arizona. Coming off my junior year and playing as a starter and winning the Arizona Division 3 state championship has added fuel to my passion of continuing to play the game I love.
My first goal is to obtain a college degree. Continuing my academic education after high school is a top priority of mine, knowing how important this will be for my future. Second, but equally as important, is that I also want to continue to develop and advance in my knowledge and skills in the game of baseball. Baseball has been a passion of mine as far back as I can remember, starting with Little League, moving to High School and playing in travel ball. I've met many great coaches and teammates, traveled to different cities, and played against opponents that I now consider friends. The game of baseball has taught me many life lessons like it's OK to want to win but also how to deal with defeat, set goals, and work to improve in areas of opportunity, and most importantly to never give up. As I enter into this next stage of my life, I anticipate many challenges, from living away from my parents, to shopping and providing for myself. I'm looking for a program that I can rely on with my teachers, coaches and teammates to help guide me as I take these steps towards independence and college life.
I am a great candidate because of my passion for baseball and my commitment to my education by achieving consistent excellent grades, and I have worked to better myself by taking private lessons and played on multiple teams to gain experience. My family introduced me to many hobbies and interests, which has allowed me to become a well-rounded individual that enjoys trying new things. Because of that, I consider myself to be a young man with many interests including hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, biking, off-roading & automobiles, music, travel, cooking and theater, to name a few.
I have always been relied upon by my family, friends and neighbors for things including landscaping, pool service, home improvements, such as tile work and even building an outdoor brick pizza oven from scratch. I have always had an interest in learning new things and I have found that I am able to be independent and self-sufficient, by using my best friends like Google and YouTube as resources to educate myself like by building a bike from parts collected throughout the neighborhood trash, to repairing things around our house and even improving my baseball skills by watching training videos posted online.
To sum it up, the reason why I'm on NCSA is that I am motivated to continue to play baseball, and at the next level. I have dreamt of playing professional baseball since I was a kid and while it may be a long shot, I have risen to the level of my competition each time I have moved up in divisions. My coaches and teammates have viewed me as a leader because of my ability to take on the responsibility and how I care for my teammates. I enjoy being relied upon by my team to make a play, get a hit, or do what is necessary to put us in the best position possible to help my team win. As a player, I am primarily a center fielder and also have the ability to play any of the outfield positions, as well as any of the infield positions. My versatility to play multiple positions has provided my coaches with the ability to place me where I will best serve the team. This year alone, I have played all 3 outfield positions, 3rd, 2nd and pitcher, due to my skill and flexibility.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement and learn a little about me, and I am excited to meet you, your staff, and learn about all the amazing things your college can offer me as a student athlete.
