As a dual sport student varsity athlete (baseball & football) in one of the most competitive high school leagues in California (Marmonte League), my values of commitment, focus and passion to improve on and off the field are part of my daily life. My grade point average continues to improve as I settled into high school after my freshman year. I have been told by many coaches at camps and clinics that I am “quick”, extremely athletic” and “very coachable”, have a good demeanor and poise. Recently at a Baseball Factory tryout I was told, “you have the defensive skills of a college middle infielder”. On game day I dream for the opportunity to perform in critical game winning situations. Nothing is better than making the clutch play/hit or working together with your teammates to come from behind and win. My teammates and I support a local charity “West Hills Champions” to help children and young adults with disabilities learning the basics of baseball skills. My time with these athletes makes it very clear who the real champions are, and how easy my life is compared to them. I always leave feeling I have made someone’s day much better and hope to continue these type of actives throughout my adult life. Since this experience, I have become less concerned about the specific position I am playing (SS or 2B) and more focused on being on the field helping my team succeed and enjoying the game.
My current goal is to be asked by a University or College to join their baseball program for 2015 season. Recently (Sept. 1, 2013) I was contacted by an Ivy league school who is interested in me as a middle infielder. I attended a 2015 prospect camp on October 25th and had an “strong” showing. In college I would like to receive a degree in Business with a focus Sports Management or Film/TV. My aspirations are to have a career in the entertainment / sports world, so I can enjoy my favorite sport as an adult and one day bring the West Hills Champions to an event.
My family is very close and we try and have fun as much as possible when together. My father and I have been playing ball since I was 6 and we still play together as much as possible. Our time together is full of life lessons and which relate to on and off the field. My mother is the most inspirational person I know and am lucky to wake up and come home to her every day. I have two sisters one a senior in college in Boston, and the other a Freshman in Vermont and we are very close.
I hope the above provides some insight into who I am and the commitment I have for both school and athletics. I look forward to speaking with you in the near future, and hope to see you at a show case or camp in the coming months.
Respectfully,
Preston C. Gittelson
