My name is Joby Antony. I am currently a junior at Davis Senior High School in Davis, CA. I've been playing baseball for about 11 years now and counting. I have always enjoyed playing baseball, but it wasn't until I was 10 that I started to love the game. I was playing on the D64 American All-Stars team for our little league and we were fortunate enough to make it to the championship game. Our team was tied 2-2 going into the 5th inning(only played 6 innings each game in little league), and I came up with two runners on base. I hit an opposite-field homerun off the yellow on the top of the fence. It was my first homerun ever in a game, and it couldn't have come at a better time. When I was rounding second, I could see everybody in the stands, especially my parents and grandparents, jumping up and down and screaming for me. Even though it was so long ago, it's still a very surreal moment for me to look back on.
My parents are a big part of my life, and they've helped me grow into the person I've become today. They've taught me how to always be kind and thoughtful to everybody around you and to always strive for a bigger goal. In 7th grade, I was awarded Friendliest boy in our grade and in 9th grade I was awarded our middle schools Heart Award. It probably doesn't seem very meaningful to a lot of people, but for me it was very heartwarming knowing that I really am spreading positivity and kindness to others. I have always tried to strive for a bigger goal, both academically and athletically. I show up to every class, learn as much as possible, and put quality time and effort into all of my work. From when I started playing baseball to now, if I wasn't sick or we weren't on vacation, I was practicing baseball at least an hour every day.
I'm very committed to the task at hand, I get along with people, and I strive to constantly be a better person on and off the field. Thank you for reading my personal statement and I can't wait to further my baseball career in college.
