I am Ethan Horowitz, freshman at Capistrano Valley High School at Mission Viejo. My aspiration is to play baseball for a D1 university because it has both strong academic and competitive athletic programs. Although this may be a hard goal to accomplish, I am willing to do whatever it takes to achieve it. My ability to learn things quickly, to take well constructive criticism, to get along with the teammates and coaches , and to help those in need as well as my strong work ethic in both academics and athletics will allow me to be a good candidate for a college team.
I had started playing baseball at the age of 3 and got promoted to Junior Varsity Baseball during my freshman year. When I was 13, my father left the family abruptly and made me realize that, besides my family, baseball is truly important in my life. It helped me to take my mind off the day-to-day struggle my family was going through and taught me that I needed to work hard and have confidence in myself to accomplish my dreams. I am now mentally stronger and can overcome any obstacle in my way.
Throughout the years of playing, I have learned to adjust and adapt to the baseball environment around me as well as the different coaching expectations. I want to be a leader and a role model for the young baseball players in my community, helping them to achieve their goals. I want people to look up to me like I look up to other players that are accomplishing their dreams.
I am 5’9” and weigh 165 lbs. I am currently working on my lifting skills. My primary position is shortstop; secondary position is 2nd base. My right hand is the dominant.
Baseball has been a passion of mine ever since I can remember. My coaches tell me that my strongest asset is my work ethic. Most of my family and friends think that baseball comes easily to me. Maybe it does, but nothing takes the place of hundreds and hundreds of drills and practices in the field.
I am an average student with a 3.0 GPA, working hard on my academic goals. College years will be my personal growth period. My goal is to explore an engineering major that will position me for success in the future. On the field, I plan to be a dynamic player and a positive influence on my team.
