Personal Statement
My name is David Phillip Brun, and I am sixteen years old, seventeen in June, and I am a junior at Yucaipa High School. Currently my GPA is 3.9 and I am ranked 50th in my class, but I plan on taking AP classes my senior year to boost my GPA to at least a 4.0. My goal is to attend a four year bachelor program in fire science. I am a musician and I play at clubs and events at school and I am also involved with a few bands. I am involved in the Alive Club at school as well, which is a Christian club. I have played baseball since I was five years old, from tee ball to club ball and now High School. As a Freshman I started at third base and batted sixth and seventh in the lineup. At the end of the season I pursued other interests and took the summer off, not planning on playing anymore. But, a few weeks before JV tryouts I decided to try out. So, I tried out, i made it passed first cuts, but on the final cuts day myself and three other players were put on the "bubble." The deciding factor was the annual Hemet scrimmage the following Tuesday. That game I went 0-3 and sure enough, I was cut. Even though I was cut, I still wanted to play baseball. I joined ABD, a wood bat league for all ages, I played in the Spring and Summer to prepare myself for Varsity Fall Ball tryouts in August. During my time in ABD I played for the D3 Bull Dogs with coach Mike Spieres and i played with the Mustangs with coach Keith Harwood. I played third base, and occasionally outfield. It took me a little while to adjust to the wood bat and I didn't hit as well as I could have, but i did have my share of hits on the team. So August came around and I tried out for the Fall Ball team for my High School. I made the JV team and was placed in the 6th period baseball class. I started off slow, but gained momentum and started playing well, and eventually I was playing with the Varsity Fall team towards the end of the Fall season. After Fall I tried out for the Varsity team, and my hard work paid off. I made the team! Although I am not currently a starter, I am working hard and preparing to be the starting third baseman my Senior year. I plan to re-join ABD again this summer, and go to the gym regularly. I also plan on entering a few showcases. I have a very good work ethic, I usually stay after practices to work on things that I struggled with that day, and I am at the field usually both days over the weekends. I take batting lessons regularly from Danny Davidsmeyer, and fielding/batting lessons from my cousin Matt Davidson, currently in the Diamondback's minor league organization (HIGH A). I encourage my teammates often by letting them know they made a good play, hit the ball hard, stole a base, bunted and etc. I display a good attitude and have good sportsmanship. I know now taking that summer off was a HUGE mistake and I have suffered the consequences, but, by diligently persevering towards my goal I have increased in character, athletic ability and strength. I'm open to any school really, baseball wise I don't believe I play at a D1 level right now, so D2, D3, NAIA schools would probably be better, but, I am striving to eventually become a D1 baseball player. Thank you for this opportunity to share my goals with you. - David Brun
