Personal Statement
Ever since I was a little kid playing tee ball, I knew that I wanted to play baseball for as long as I could and become the best teammate and individual player I could be. I learned the importance of working hard and setting goals. Baseball has always been my passion, and I firmly believe, always will be, no matter how far I continue.
I know that baseball has provided me with life skills, such as helping me develop a strong work ethic, following instructions and managing my time. It's shown me to appreciate my abilities and value my talents. All of these lessons have been instilled in me by my parents, and reinforced through my coaches and teachers. I spent one summer training in the Dominican Republic, living in the village of Boca Chica. We ran on the beach every morning, and trained in the scorching heat. It was one of the greatest experiences I've had so far, as it made me realize how fortunate I am.
Recently, I received an evaluation from my coach at IMG, and he said "Jason has shown phenomenal character and work ethic. He is one of the most respectful athletes in the baseball program. Jason has a very mature, professional approach to his preparation and training. He understands the amount of work it takes to see progress and development. Jason is a great team mate and sets an example for the rest of the program."
So, in addition to my skill set, I am proud to have earned the respect of my coaches, and teammates. I work hard to bring out the best in myself and in others. I've had my moments where I have to had to "refocus" just as every other teenager, but I've done so successfully, and I recognize that I'm not perfect, and have lots to learn. I hope I have the opportunity to continue to do so, and to bring my energy, skills and leadership to your program.
