Matthew Andres Hernandez '29 Recruiting Profile

My name is Matthew Hernandez and I have BIG aspirations for my future as a student-athlete. I try to live life on a 3-1 count and always looking for a good pitch to hit in the strike zone, but taking the base on balls if the pitch is out of the zone. In other words, I work both hard and smart so I am selective in most things I do. At the plate, I am a switch hitter that is more developed from the right-side. However, I can hit the ball to all outfields and my line drives have high dispersion into both gaps. Defensively, I have chosen to play rightfield and centerfield out of choice and have a strong and accurate arm. I am also a right-handed pitcher with a crafty breaking ball. I am honored to have earned more than 50 Perfect-Game All-Tournament (Major) Awards in hitting and pitching since 2021 but realize that this Is just the beginning of long journey towards my ultimate goal!  In terms of character, I lead by example on the teams that I have competed on and prefer to lift and empower my teammates when down, rather than to promote my own accolades. I am a TEAM PLAYER. I do admit that I am highly competitive and strive for excellence in virtually everything that I put my mind on. Players and coaches that have competed with or against me say that "he has a fire burning inside, but has ice in his veins." Academically, I can be rigorous and competitive and have earned outstanding grades, academic honors, many other awards up to this point. Athletically, I feel that I have what it takes to perform at a high level both at a high-school and collegiate level and go on to do great things for baseball in the future.
