Personal Statement

My name is Nick McNeil out of Jacksonville Fl and I turned 17 on June 24, 2011. I am a true two way player; a hitter that can pitch and a pitcher that can hit. My mound composure is one of my best qualities. I will earn a FMA Bright Future Scholarship in Florida this year.  It is my dream to play college baseball and compete at the highest level. Each of my coaches over the last 9 yrs,  have said that I am highly coachable and that they appreciate my willingness to learn. In order to improve myself and help my team win, I must have an open mind to being coached up on my game and skills.

Competition only makes me better. I do not like loosing but accept loss and move on. Having a tough mental attitude especially on the mound,  is one of my best qualities. I stand 6 feet tall, weigh175 pounds and I am growing. My 60 time was clocked at 6.8 seconds. I throw right, bat left with power, can hit to all fields, bunt well & have the ability to play every position.  Some of my accomplishments are:

  • Winning the Championship at Cooperstown as a starting 12 yr old pitcher
  • Throwing 3 shut outs in showcase tournament baseball
  • A 13 'K'  performance in travel ball with an inside the park HR in the same game.
  • Making the varsity team my freshman year with pitching by beating the team's top four hitters
  • Helping my school move on in regional play with my hitting as a sophomore
  • Hitting 88 mph pitching, throwing 94 mph from the outfiled and 87 across the infield.
  • As a starting pitcher in 17U showcase ball, I started 18 games and won 12,  lost 5, tied 1. Hit 450 in fall with the same team in mostly wood bat events
  • From the mound I turned a triple play on a bunt
  • Playing LF and RF I hosed runners stealing home and third respectively
  • A favorite was holding down a nationaly ranked 17U show case team for 6 1/3 innings without a hit and winning the game.
  • In three separate events as a starting pitcher I held nationally ranked showcase teams Mizuno's 17u, Next Level's 17 u and East Cobb Astros down for 12 innings, allowing only 3 runs and got 13 k's. Each team was heavy with D1 signees to UF, FSU, Clemson, Nebraska Omaha etc. All these games happened after my fourth game of each event as a position player then as a starting pitcher during that event. I have plenty of endurance.
  • At the EBA event in Orlando I threw 2 shut outs in back to back games where I was the starting pitcher over a two day period. I eliminated the number 1 seeded team in the second shut out.

Coach I can offer your team a good example with my behavior. I am respectful, keep a positive attitude and I am not a "me" monster. I will 'out work' most teammates, keep trying to improve myself and those around me as well. I love pitching against the best hitters and am glad to take on that challenge. My composure on the mound is fantastic. If I get rocked or have errors behind me, you will not see it in my face or behavior. I just get back up and attack the next hitter.

In the off season I continue to work with my coach/trainer on all parts of the game. Currently my pitching coach holds work outs on long throws with weighted balls, bull pens, flat grounds, cardio and band exercises. Baseball requires consistent hard work year round.

My preference is a college or university that will offer me a superior education and has a solid baseball program. My plans are to major in Business & Finance, Entrepreneurship or Vet Science. I will work hard for you, make an impact, ask questions to learn how to be a better player and I will compete to win. In return I ask your coaches to help me rise to my fullest potential as an athlete, a team player, a student and as a person.
