Personal Statement
My name is Luke Koon . I am a high school junior that currently attends James S. Rickards High School in Tallahassee, Florida. As a junior, I am in the top 6% of my class, maintain a 3.85 unweighted GPA, and am in the International Baccalaureate Program. I play first base and pitcher, and I hit and throw from the right side. I have always wanted to play college baseball, however, as time progressed, I realized that I do not have the abilities to play at a major Division I Program. That being said, I would love to continue playing after high school, and I am now realizing that a DII or even a DIII school would be more realistic. However, I also want to attend a school that takes pride in their academics. For me, I need to have a good mix in terms of the school. While I want to have a great education, I would love to continue playing baseball. I realize that I might have to compensate in order to do both, but I am still open to a wide variety of options.
I believe that I have a unique set of attributes that separate me from the rest of the athletes in my class. Leadership, having a positive mindset, and always encouraging teammates to work hard have always been something I have been good at. Heading into my junior year, I have to set a good example to underclassmen, doing the right thing and working hard. I believe I have enhanced these skills through the various clubs I have participated in as well as my rigorous academic schedule. These are skills that I am constantly building upon and developing.
While I may not throw the hardest or hit the furthest, I believe I have a unique build in order to enhance these skills. At 6 foot 4 and 185 pounds, I am a very lanky person. I have been going to the gym for the past year and a half, and in that time, I have put on 25 pounds. With my build, I believe I have the potential to drastically increase things such as velocity and bat speed. I have been working very hard to get to where I want to be, but I still want more. By playing baseball in college, I can develop my body more and allow it to preform at a higher standard.
