My name is WIlliam Picchiarini, from Fort Pierce, Florida, attending Vero Beach High School after recently transferring from Port St Lucie High School, I play 3B,1B OF, and I am capable of playing 2nd and Short, I also pitch in relief It is a dream and a goal of mine to compete at the next level, while earning my education.
I am a dual enrollment student with a 4.3 weighted GPA(3.8 unweighted) and a 1210 SAT score. I take pride in my academic achievements and I plan on graduating high school with my associates degree in business from Indian River State College. I hope to receive a degree in marketing/communications wherever I attend.
I’m also a starting varsity guard at my high school. At Port St Lucie, my father was the head coach. (and also one of my classroom teachers my junior year) Playing for him was not easy, but being around him and the way he approaches preparation at a very high level has made a huge impact on me.
I have been playing both basketball and baseball a long time and have learned how to balance working on both sports and keeping my body healthy, and my ULTIMATE dream would be to find a home where I could play both sports at the next level.
To begin my junior season of basketball, i suffered an ankle sprain that sidelined me from full activity for 10 weeks. I was told my basketball season was most likely over, and to prepare for baseball, I worked my ass off and came back and played in 8 games. This injury taught me a lot about adversity, setting a goal, and working to achieve it. It also helped me learn to be grateful for simple things, like being able to walk, and carry things, and I even found that I missed running sprints. I learned it is a blessing to be able to compete and to appreciate every moment.
After the season ending early, due to COVID I have been working daily to maintain and improve my body and skills in both baseball and basketball, and I played in 4 tournaments this summer with FTB Tampa, and I feel I played pretty well, and contributed to the team's much improved record from the summer before. During the summer, I transferred to Vero Beach High School where there is a winning culture and the tools for me to improve and become prepared to be a college baseball player, and I am excited and hopeful for the upcoming season.
I feel like my biggest strengths in baseball are my versatility, and willingness to learn, athleticism, and hitting, but most of all I feel like I am a great teammate and my work ethic pushes others to work as hard, when they are around me. Also my willingness to change position in order for us to win, whether I play 1st/3rd/OF/DH I am ready to do what is best for the team.
I know I have many areas in my game that I can improve on, especially my arm strength which I know for a fact needs work and I believe if I am in an environment where I can work on my arm strength and throwing form it will improve drastically, as I feel I have 10 MPH in my arm that I can't seem to tap into. Also I know I can improve in other areas such as fine tuning my fielding skills, improving my overall consistency at the plate, and improving my baserunning, but I have the work ethic to strive to get better. I know other kids say they have the work ethic and want to put in work but never do, but coach I promise I will be a gym rat, ready to work at any time, and I will give a full 1000% to my work on the field and in the classroom. I hope to hear from you soon, I will also have an updated video posted soon. Thank You.
