Personal Statement

My name is Ryan Sargent. I am a 2015 graduate at Jacobs High School in Algonquin, IL.  I am 6 feet 2 inches, weigh 175 pounds, and run a 6.85 in the sixty yard dash.  I am currently ranked 21st in Illinois (106 overall) on the Prep Baseball Report Rankings for the Class of 2015.

During my freshman year I was the starting center fielder on the sophomore baseball team and played on Jacobs' summer varsity team which took 3rd place in the state championship.  As a sophomore, I played Varsity on a team that made it to the Super-Sectionals of the State Tournament.  For summer, I played up an age level on the Illinois Indians 17U Tribe, which traveled all around the country to play the best competition around.

I also played basketball and play football.  I was the starting point guard on the sophomore basketball team as a freshman and I'm currently in my 2nd year on the varsity football team playing wide receiver, kicker & defensive back.

I have worked hard to be the best at every sport I play, but before anything else I want to win.  I could have 10 turnovers that game and miss every shot I take or go 0-3 with 3 strikeouts, but if my team wins the championship, I will be happy.  I live for the pressure situations; making clutch baskets, getting that 2 out single to push in the tying run, or making the game winning interception, that is why I love to be on the field.

I want to attend a college that has an outstanding baseball program.  That being said, I am looking for a school that has good academics along with a student body that bleeds the colors of their school.  I am sure the right fit is out there for me.

  • Selected for a third time to represent Great Lakes NTIS and compete for a spot on the 17U National Team. Per Coach Hall: Ryan has a very good body for a baseball player. He has an extrememly good understanding of how to play the game. Ryan has great baseball instincts and gets exceptionally good reads on balls in the outfield. He is a good contact hitter and puts the ball in play consistently. Ryan will be a very good college baseball player.
  • Camp/Event
  • Midwest Futures Games
  • 8/02/13 to 8/04/13
  • Member of Team Illinois. Competed in 3 games over the weekend against some of the top 2015 players from the Midwest. Per PrepBaseball Report.+ OF Ryan Sargent (Jacobs HS) delivered two hits against Ohio – a run-scoring single in the fifth and a sharp single to right field to lead off the seventh. The 6-foot-2 Sargent also ripped a shot right at the centerfielder in Game 1 and made a diving catch in centerfield. + OF Ryan Sargent (Jacobs HS) was one of the clear offensive standouts during the first two days. The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder barreled up top-level pitching all three games, showing excellent plate coverage and the ability to drive the ball to all fields. On Saturday, Sargent went 2-for-2 with a stand-up triple to right-center field. He also singled, stole a base, and scored a run to lead off the seventh inning. Sargent hit safely in his last four at-bats, and one of the two outs he made – a line-shot to centerfield – was arguably the hardest hit of the bunch.

  • 1/15/11 to 1/15/11
  • PBR Comment - Rated in the top 10 for underclass participants. Sargent is another eighth-grader who we’re sure you will be reading about a lot in the future. The 6-foot, 150-pound two-way prospect showed solid hands, defensive actions and an accurate arm in the field. At the plate he exhibited a smooth and balanced swing which found the barrel. Sargent’s level swing, with continued physical development, will look to gain strength and power over time. On the mound the two-way talent came from a high ¾ arm slot with an easy arm action
