Personal Statement
Hi, I'm Raymond Shoemaker a Senior at Grayslake North High School. I have played baseball there throughout my high school career. My freshman year I was asked to play for our JV team. Ever since Sophomore year I have been on Varsity starting either in Center Field or Right Field. I have been putting in a lot of work and can't wait for my last season.
Since I was young I have always had a dream to play baseball in the pros. It is a super tough process but I don't back down and never stop trying. I have hit a few road blocks on my way to my dream. During freshman year almost when my basketball season was over I tore my right shoulder for the first time, I was devastated and extremely sad. I then rushed back sophomore year just to play football and tore it again. I still played my sophomore year and started on Varsity. I started in right field and had a great year. I didn't realize I retore it until Junior year and missed all of junior year as well. I have recently overcame and healed 100% from my injury. My doctor said my arm looks stronger then it ever has before. And to be honest I was close to giving up on my dream because I know how hard it is to even go to college for baseball let alone missing two years of high school baseball. But I'm not giving up because that is who I am. I keep putting in the work just to prove that you can overcome anything.
This past Junior year was really hard for me to just watch. I wanted to be on the field but I knew I had to step up as a leader for my team. They looked up to me whether I was playing or not and I helped them through out the whole year. I recently was selected as a NLCC leader for my leadership. I was one of a few hand picked to go to College of Lake County to represent my school and my team.
I have taken one honors class. I am currently in one more my senior year. I was never put into honors class but always have good grades. I am not the best test taker but the more I study the better I do. My GPA over the years had gone up and have been very proud of myself. I take my grades super serious and finish everything given to me.
Overall I am a player who knows there role. A player who doesn't give up, a player who is competitive, a player who hustles, I am a player who respects the game and shows sportsmanship. I am a leader. I love the game of baseball and have always had a passion for it. I want to win and don't like to lose. I am hoping through my hard work on the field and in the classroom that I will earn a college scholarship and just play ball.
