Jimmy Hemera '20 Recruiting Profile

My name is Jimmy Hemera and I’m a baseball player from Christchurch, New Zealand.  I started playing baseball six years ago, when junior baseball first started in Christchurch, and have played softball for 11 years (softball is the main diamond sport in New Zealand).  In those six years I have played for my club at the Club Nationals five times, for my region at the national tournament once and in a nation-wide selection team playing in Australia twice. 

My primary position is catcher, but major leaguers have called my curveballs nasty (Steven Brault (Pirates) visited us earlier this year).  My coach isn’t afraid to put me into any position either.  I am hard working, I always hustle, I’m dedicated. I enjoy trainings almost as much games. When my coach was away, I was leading the trainings and managing our games.

I have just received two awards from my baseball club.  The first is the Leadership award, which recognises my abilities on the diamond, and the second award is the Club Supporter of the Year, which recognises my contributions to umpiring, scoring and groundskeeping.

I have always wanted to go to college in America to play baseball, and to further my studies in whatever field I’m interested in at that time. I’m currently thinking I will study physics.
