Education provides a whole-of-life skill set that cannot be replaced. Being a student athlete blends the desire to achieve a higher education with the aspiration to constantly challenge myself as part of a team. I have worked hard to achieve excellent grades in my studies. I now wish to translate these grades into experiences that will establish who I am and set me on a pathway for future achievement. I wish to pursue a degree in sports journalism or athletic training, while exploring my options for excelling at baseball.
I bring to any College or team a unique range of skills. As an Australian, I have represented my country at baseball and played five years in the United States (northern Virginia) as part of my junior development.
I approach situations differently and attract a diversity to any situation, academic or sporting. Academically, I am able to broaden those views of fellow students with whom I interact, as well as my own. By taking the risk of coming to a different country to study, I am demonstrating my desire to step away from areas of comfort and explore opportunity. In the sporting arena, a team relies on the right mix of individuals; people who not only bring skills and attributes required to play the game, but also more subtle and discrete skills that may have just as important an affect. As a Center Fielder for example, I have a leadership role, not just in coordinating the outfield, but for coordinating the crucial decision making between the infield and the outfield. I need to make the right plays and direct the optimal cutoffs. Extending these skills to the dugout I encourage and support others by understanding their individual needs in that particular moment and being positive in their capacity to deliver. I also bring with me flexibility for any team. Not only am I a position player, but I am a person who can be relied upon in relief, or to close an innings with controlled left-handed pitching.
My principal strengths however relate to my strong academic and sporting commitment to excellence. Always striving to succeed and knowing that I can always improve on any situation. While failure will come, I always learn from such experiences and determine myself to move forward with a positive frame of mind.
To be a Collegiate athlete is to aspire to excellence. This is a dream I have and one that I wish to see realized. I am committed, will work hard and will channel my personal drive into the best outcome for the team or College, as both a student and athlete.
