2022 Spotlight
2022 SpotlightI am David Williams, a 2025 OF from Maryland. I am a hard worker and an addict for reps. I love to work out and play baseball, and I would like to play baseball at a high level for as long as possible (preferably in the MLB). I can deliver in clutch situations. I'm fast and strong. I can hit and produce runs for the team. I can also utilize my speed to track down balls hit in the outfield and run the bases. I have an attitude to attack and achieve my goals. I'm always looking to and thinking about improving myself as a person and a player.
I have a comeback story.
I was originally class of 2024, but I am now class of 2025. During my freshman year, I had near a 4.0 GPA, and I was in the process of making strides in my baseball career. Things were going well and then the adversity started. At first, my grades started to drop a little, but my baseball skills and achievements continued to progress. Later In the summer, I played for the Richmond Braves National travel team. 2022 marked the beginning of a hard period for my family and in my life. We experienced a great deal of loss and grief. During that period, I ended up leaving baseball and school. (A relative had encouraged me to get a GED.) Fortunately, I had a chance to think about my life, and what I wanted to do with the one life that I had left. My attitude and my plans changed. Eventually, I decided to reenter school and start playing baseball again. But this time I had extra conviction and extra drive to really go and get what I want. I understand that, although I've had some speed bumps in life, I can still reach my goals. However, there's no time to delay. I've also learned many lessons about myself and about working with others that make me a great team player. Most of all, I realized that if I don't go after my goals, they simply won't be reached. My maturity, determination, strength, and size have all increased. Since I've been back, I've gotten all A's in my classes, and had perfect attendance. I even earned a spot on the Principal's All A's list. I'm back to working out and practicing hard, like I have a goal to reach.
Because I had completed all of my high school graduation requirements in the fall, my high school principal allowed me to go down to the Elev8 Baseball Academy in South Florida for the spring. It has been an amazing experience — I have been able to compete against top level Florida high school and college baseball players! My batting average was .438 at the end of the spring season. I am currently playing in the Charles Johnson Summer Collegiate League also in South Florida.
