I was the last person cut from the Freshman baseball team after 6 days of tryouts. I was pretty devastated to say the least. Weeks later I set a goal which was to make the Beverly High Baseball team the following year. I tried out and made Vikings, a club team. I had worked hard over the year and was excited to get my opportunity to tryout again. Just days before tryouts the pandemic hit and the season was cancelled. I kept practicing and was able to play for Vikings that summer. Finally, junior year tryouts happened. I was the only Junior to make the JV team- other juniors making Varsity. Though my goal was to make Varsity that year, I looked at this as an opportunity to showcase my abilities and prove that I could compete with this group. On JV, I pitched 22 innings with an ERA of .318, only allowing 1 earned run. My batting average was .345. I was called up to pitch for Varsity. My first game I got the save allowing no hits. For Varsity I pitched 8.1 innings with a 2.52 ERA. I pitched in both playoff games. At the baseball banquet I received the Varsity Baseball 2021 Program Achievement Award - Perseverance "For overcoming adversity and continued hard work." My journey has taught me lots of life lessons. I now know if I set a goal I can achieve it with hard work.
I hope you will take a chance on me because I won't let you down if you do.
