Leadership is a core value in my life, which influences my daily interactions in the classroom, on the sports field and with my family. At a very early age, I started playing baseball. In fact, I think my first step was on a baseball field. During this time, I have honed my leadership skills by encouraging my teammates, being a model for others to follow and embracing good sportsmanship. When a teammate has a bad game, I am always the first one to support and encourage him. I try to provide morale support by sharing that, every game, can’t be your best and looking to the next game as new opportunity to start over.
I am continuously looking for ways to grow as a person both on and off the field. Last year I went to Camden New Jersey for a service trip; and this year I have the opportunity to travel to Ecuador. During these trips, I have time to pause and reflect and to truly get to know myself better, while serving underprivileged communities. With the help of St. John’s Prep and my family, I have seen how strong role models can impact and improve one’s life. These trips provide the opportunity for me to enhance my leadership skills and grow as an individual. On the field and in the community, I strive to be a leader, and model that behavior for others to emulate.
