A young adult student athlete that is academically focused and strides to achieve the most out of myself, while playing the sport I fell in love with since I could walk. Baseball is my reward for being a student and being able to get on the diamond with my other teammates and good friends. I knew I had talent around age of 12 and immediately knew this sport was for me.
As a student athlete I believe maintaining the balance between social life, sports, and my grades is one of the most difficult problems I am tasked with. Being able to bust through any challenges and conflicted problems makes me great for dealing with stress. Criminology/ criminal justice, the major I would be obtaining undergraduate in, requires me to be perfect and error-less under pressure. School has given me the necessary tools to be good with others and having to gel with others that I'd be around everyday, forming long lasting bonds that go further than just the classroom but right to the diamond.
Prior courses like government and politics, currently AP psychology, and youth and the law, all give me a good foundation to further build upon and eventually major in criminal justice/ criminology fields. My family has always had someone who serves others and or the country itself, my grandpa served as special forces in Vietnam, my uncle is currently a cop in Florida, and my dad was also a corrections officer. Criminal and that entire field has always enraptured me since a child from sitting in my uncles police car to the TV shows like criminal minds.
Not only does the ability to be able to deal with problems and stress under pressure while having to make split second decisions required for being a police officer or in the military, the skill set makes me perfect for arguably one of the most important positions in baseball, catcher. Catcher is involved with every play and is the only position that can see the whole field while the play is happening. Catchers are required to take charge and lead the team. The catcher is entrusted with making sure the right pitch is called, play is put on, defensive formation, player positioning, and situational awareness.
I believe these attributes and skills help me to not only allow me to achieve my best on the baseball field with my teammates and coaches, but also in the classroom getting good grades and being the student athlete I am going to college for and furthering my life.
