Todd (TJ) Nelson Jr. '18 Recruiting Profile

Baseball has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember.  From my days in little league through AAU, into high school and on to Legion ball, it has been my passion and favorite sport to play. 

I am now a junior in high school and have my sights set on playing baseball at the next level.  I plan to attend a highly competitive academic institution with a strong baseball program. 

Based on feedback from my coaches both in basketball and baseball, my core character competencies are hard work, leadership and a high level of play, particularly during the most meaningful time of the game. 

My mentality for hard work was shaped due to a desire to be the best player on the field.  The extra work I put in over the years is where I honed my fundamental skills, particularly as a defensive player.  I am a believer that to be consistently successful in a game, you must put the proper time in at practice.

Throughout my playing career, I have played at levels 1 and 2 years older than my actual age.  A recent example of that was my freshman year when my varsity coach pulled me up from the JV team after 8 games and started me at shortstop for the varsity team the balance of the year.  I responded by batting .349 during that time which was second best on the varsity team.  This past year as a sophomore, I batted .369 and was nominated for defensive player of the year in the Tri-valley league on a team that lost in the semifinal round of the South sectionals.   That same trend continued in the summer as I started at shortstop for the Medfield SR. Legion team as a sophomore.  I capped the summer off by being selected to the SR. Legion All Star team for District 6. 

Looking ahead, I am excited to begin working through the college recruiting process in order to find the right fit for both myself and the school I will eventually choose.
