My name is Mason McGuire and I’m just starting up my junior year at Brighton High School in Brighton, MI. This past year (2018-2019) I competed on the JV Football and Varsity Baseball teams. Our baseball program is in one of the most competitive conferences in the state. I have been playing baseball since I was 5 and came home and told my parents I wanted to play. Both my parents were collegiate athletes but neither were baseball players so it was a new adventure for all of us. I have been playing ever since and have been part of a high level travel baseball team, The Michigan Blue Jays, for the past 5 years. My primary position has always been catcher, but this year both coaches have started to develop me as a shortstop. In fact I started every JV game as a freshman at short and as a varsity player I started every inning in left field sharing time catching and playing middle infield. Most kids would be bummed that that they were moved from their favorite position, but I have taken it as an opportunity to showcase my range and athletic abilities. I feel that being behind the dish for so many years has given me an edge to how I play the game. I'm effective on the base paths, a producer at the plate (switch hitter) and a leader both on and off the field. My coach has consistently called me his QB of the team.
I am a catcher and we are a breed of our own. I love to have fun and stay loose, but know how to turn it on when it's time to grind. I train with a hitting instructor, in my garage with my little brother on the tee and with flips, go to the weight room and watch my diet. Obviously I want to play baseball at the next level and know it is not an easy task to get there. I am not limiting myself to a particular type of college/university. I want a team that has strong coaches who not only emphasize baseball but also team, family, morals and education. I am not at all scared about the idea of moving out of state.
On my off time I love to fish, kayak, snowboard, play with my dog and travel with my family. I hope to get scuba certified this year and start diving more.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile and get to know me a little. I hope your season went well and continues to grow in the years to come.
