I was one of 3 freshman called up to varsity to participate in a ballgame at Comerica Park in Detroit, where the Tigers play. I got called in in the 2nd inning with bases loaded and no outs. I struck out the first batter and got the 2nd batter to hit a ground ball to the SS for a tailor made double play. Unfortunately the 2nd baseman through the relay to first away and a run scored. I pitched three innings that day and so far has been the highlight of my high school career.

In my first Gameday tournament, in my first year playing travel ball, I won MVP honors in the first 2 games played in the tournament awarded by the opposing managers. In the 2nd game, I pitched 4 shutout innings in a 2-1 game, striking out 9 and only giving up 1 hit to the eventual tournament winners.
