With a name like Nolan you would think naturally a baseball player, right? I was named because of my dad's favorite player Nolan Ryan. Regardless, my parents had us try all sports and activities. They would say that they didn't care what we did but we needed to do something. They both grew up playing sports and said it taught them to have good time management and many other things. Gradually I chose football, basketball, and baseball as my favorites. My dad coached me up until high school and still for baseball and looking back feel I was pushed harder as the coach’s kid.
Over the last couple years, I continued to play all 3 sports in high school but my love for baseball and wanting to play more has now become more evident. Growing 3 inches this past year helped me increase my ability on the mound and I know that I have the potential to do even more. The one thing I learned being a student athlete is to balance things well and I think it has helped me as a student. I want to continue my baseball career after high school where I can continue to balance academics and athletics. My parents were right that sports teach you many things.
The other thing I learned from playing multiple sports is being able to work hard. Many times, I would finish a 2-hour basketball practice and go directly to travel baseball practice. I also think my personality would make me successful in a college program. I don't get rattled on the mound and focus on keeping cool, relaxed, and getting the job done. Overall, I hope you see my potential and how I will be an asset to your program.
