Baseball has been my passion for as long as I remember. I work hard day in and day out. I show it through club work 4 days a week, a lifting program, velocity training, batting coach - you name it. I am entering my Senior Year at Stillwater Area High School in Stillwater, MN. I'm 5'10" and presently putting on muscle mass as I build my 180-pound frame. I am a right-handed hitter/pitcher/thrower.
I am a Middle Infielder and RHP. My sweet spot is 2nd Base. As a MIF, I also play SS and 3rd. I've had games in the OutField (Center). I work hard to be the most versatile player on my team. My greatest assets are consistency and versatility on the field and at-bats. This ensures that I can get the job done no matter where I'm needed. My work ethic, consistency, and drive to grow and master new goals - are my measures for success. I love that my versatility shines through no matter what team I'm on. This versatility is shown on my current club ball team - I recently pitched 7 innings in a tournament in Iowa. I went 105 Pitches, 0 ER, 11 SO and 3 Walks for a team win! Earning the spot in our next tournament as a starting pitcher! I step up to new challenges, keep focused and take one game/one training session at a time.
I've always worked hard to keep my priorities straight, and it has been paying off so far. I admit that in my first year in high school, I didn't take full responsibility for classroom deadlines. As a transfer student to a new school environment, navigating a new system and COVID took me time. However, from 10th grade moving on, I've made up ground and have grown in my understanding of what true responsibility looks like with academics. With the support of my parents and my faith, success in both School, Baseball and Life will be achieved. I always put in my best effort in school, baseball practice, or in-game. I will overcome any obstacle that comes my way.
I love Baseball so when I'm not playing baseball - You can still find me on the field. Yes, I began coaching this summer with a 10U Stillwater Training Program. I was head coach for my team of 9 and 10-year-olds. It was amazing to share my love and knowledge of the game with those young boys. I hope to continue this in the years to come. My family always finds a way to share in my love of ball of the field too. Wiffleball games in the backyard for competitive game nights with my siblings too. There are always times to decompress as well. Which is why I enjoy golfing. There's nothing like driving that ball with my "baseball swing" and just seeing the ball fly down the fairway. I enjoy fishing, skiing (water and snow), and really anything sports-related; I'm game to try. My mom pushes healthy eating to ensure I keep up my caloric intake with being such an active person - it isn't always easy eating all that food, but I know I need fuel to keep me going. Without my family, I know I couldn't be focused, supported, and pushed to be my better self.
I look forward to one day starting my own business and helping others reach their athletic potential by opening my training facility and growing it to a nationally recognized sports facility fully encompassing nutrition/athletic achievement/sports medicine and more! I plan to major in Marketing and Business and minor in sports medicine. I know that sounds like a lot, but balancing collegiate baseball and academics no longer feels overwhelming. Education, responsibility, and determined drive will make my dreams come true.
Please, take the time to review my videos, stats and add comments. I look forward to meeting you on the ball field or being invited to your campus for a visit.
Respectfully, Mateo Rodriguez
