Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Adam Johnson Jr.,
I have enjoyed baseball for as long as I can remember and it completes a part of me that nothing else can. Playing at the collegiate level would be an amazing opportunity that many people wish for. Some make it, some do not. I hope to join those who have played college baseball and above. One of the biggest things that would make me a great addition to your team are that I'm a friendly/agreeable person who gets along with people easily. Another thing is when the competition gets better and tougher, I get better and tougher. A major focus in my life as a person and an athlete is staying humble. Sometimes I will talk about something I did if I am very proud of it, however, I never hope to rub it in someone's face. I love to play with high energy when I got onto the field or step into the batter's box.
As a pitcher I've always tried to use good, basic fundamentals while pitching more advanced pitches and performing well-timed or efficient pick-off moves. Whenever I pitch, I set high standards for myself. My pitching "motto/phrase" is one simple word..."Attack". My father and I were talking about baseball one night when he told me to just attack, and be fearless. I would describe myself as a pitcher who dominates with the fastball and disrupts hitters with big breaking off-speed pitches. As a fielder, I will mess up from time to time but I won't let it go to my head, it's always about the next play, the next opportunity, but when it's the last chance, I do whatever it takes to finish. When I'm hitting, I go into the at-bat ready to strike, but focused and patient enough to make good decisions. I am a natural right-handed hitter with some power handling the stick.
But college is barely about athletics. The word student comes first in the term "student-athlete". As a student, I have a higher level of knowledge and understanding than most. However, I have a tendency to procrastinate which often gets me in trouble with my grades. I love to challenge myself in the classroom during lessons and by also taking AP courses. My preferred major would be History; or something revolving around the subject. I am a bit on the younger side, as I will graduate before I turn eighteen years old. I have also taken two separate foreign language classes, two years of Spanish in middle school, and two years of German in high school. I don't remember much Spanish, but I know a lot of German. That may not be totally beneficial towards baseball, but it could possibly help in the future. School is very important to my family. I am the oldest of four children and as of the fall of 2022, all four children will be in school. Typically I will help my siblings with their schoolwork when they struggle. As a big brother, I enjoy taking it upon myself to not just help my siblings, but to help people when they need it.
