For as long as I can remember, I have spent all of the spring and summer months with a ball and glove in my hand and a baseball bag off my shoulders carrying my wood and aluminum bats. The shrine of trophies and plaques in my home can attest to the fact, that there is nothing I enjoy more than playing baseball. My father is also a fan of baseball and shares many stories of his childhood in the Dominican Republic playing in the dirt with a ball made out of thread and stuffed into a sock. I have so many memories of going to the ballpark with my family, but one that stands out is the 2009 World Series game which I was fortunate to attend with my dad. There is no greater feeling than to witness the excitement of a World Series game than from the stands.
My father has always been a present and active influence in my life. Always tossing the ball, warming me up before I pitched, present in all my games and constantly giving me advice about how I can improve. He is always looking for the opportunity for me to get pitching lessons and workouts no matter what the cost. My mom on the other hand keeps me grounded and focused on school. I guess you you can say that baseball has been my passion and the glue that has kept our family united. It’s also the motivation that has allowed me to perform well in school and the outlet that has allowed me to build my self-confidence. Not to mention a family past time that has helped build many memories.
There isn’t an opportunity that I don’t take to work hard and strive to improve my skills. Baseball is the channel that has shaped who I am and what I want to do for the rest of my life. The discipline that I have learned through the game of baseball is one that I can take where ever I go. Most importantly that there is no “I” in team. I can’t think of anything more electrifying than pursuing an education while playing the sport that has shaped my life. I appreciate your interest in viewing my profile and reading my personal statement. I can assure you that I will be focusing on completing my junior year with grades in the high 90’s while focusing on strengthening and conditioning my mind and body to prepare for spring baseball.
