As a student as well as an athlete, I believe that there are five things that define an exceptional individual in these fields: hard work, grit, adaptability, the attitude of success, and intelligence. If I were to describe myself in terms of each of these, I believe that I stand out in intelligence, adaptability, and grit and highly above average in hard work and the attitude for success. Recently, my work ethic has increased substantially and after achieving many personal goals, I have become more confident in myself and my ability to better myself without a motivator or personal trainer. I love the sense of competition, especially very good competition, because it allows me to see what I am capable of doing under pressure and how I can work to better myself so that I am able to compete at a much higher standard each time I have a challenge. I have always placed my education first before sports, and in doing so this has made my intelligence and decision making skills in baseball superior to most of the competition that I have faced. When I was not able to have exceptional velocity or command of off-speed pitches in starts of the past, I have been able to get hitters out due to knowledge and weaknesses of different stances, best spots to place pitches in order to initiate weak contact, and fearlessness on the mound. I aspire to play baseball at the highest level possible at a college with well respected academic standards.
