Personal Statement

At the age of eight years old I asked my dad, "Can I become a professional baseball player?" He said we should talk to a pro player and ask lots of questions. I was then introduced to Ed Marquez (formerly of the Cubs and Expos organizations) who evaluated me as a youth player and gave us a plan. He advised me to join a baseball academy and train throughout the winter and consider little league in the Spring. This brought me to LVBA (Lehigh Valley Baseball Academy) and an introduction to Dylan Dando, scout for Oakland A's and CEO of LVBA. When Dylan asked my dad what do we want to do here... join one of their teams or train full time?  We selected training year round. That was five years ago and a decision I've never regretted looking back. I continue to train there with advanced skills trainer Mike Gilbert.

I later joined and played little league in NYC (four years) and at the age of ten also became a member of Baseball Factory out of Columbia, Maryland. The Factory invited me to their advanced skills training in Cape Cod, Massachusetts where I witnessed the top college baseball players perform. This is where I want to be when I'm in college.  My next move was to join a travel baseball program. The Staten Island Orioles club under the direction of Mike Campbell became my new home. In the past two years, I've played in over 170 games and 12 tournaments with them. We are always playing up in tournaments, so I'm enjoying the challenge and camaraderie.

This year 2015, I've entered Susan E. Wagner High School in Staten Island, NY. They have a very competitive baseball program rated PSAL (triple A). As a freshman I tried out for their team, "Wagner Falcons" and not only made the team but was honored to have been selected to play Varsity.  My aspiration is to excel throughout my high school years and be considered to play Division 1 in college. Earlier this past summer I was invited to WVU to play in front of head coach Randy Mazey. West Virginia University has made me more aware of the level of competition expected of me to play Varsity and in college. I am concentrating on my academics so that I may continue playing travel club ball and high school baseball I now look forward to meeting many college coaches and welcome to hear who among them might be interested in me joining their programs.  Visit my website at: www.patrickmccaleb.com (for more info).
