  • 2016 Webster Warthogs (14/15u)
  • My team is 95-17-2 since 2014, and we have done this playing against teams that contain older players than myself. Coaches comments from this season: Nick struck out in 4.2% of his at bats, which was 2nd best on the team. This is a remarkable number. While Nick doesn't currently exhibit all the classic qualities of an ideal leadoff hitter, his ability to put the ball in play, speed and base running ability made him impossible to move from that spot. I never really considered making anyone else the leadoff hitter in a big game. Nick just makes us go. Defensively, Nick is the most versatile talent on the team. He is truly a 9 position player and when I say that, I mean that whatever position he chose to play, he would be successful. There is nowhere I would not put him and feel comfortable, even with his relative lack of experiences in certain places. His arm strength is top 3 and his motor are perhaps unparalleled on the team. No one thinks and shares more about the game during the game than Nick does. He approaches the coaches frequently to tell us what he has seen and what value the information has to the team. As for areas of improvement for Nick to focus on from my perception: 1. Pitch selection in the batter's box. It is remarkable that his BA is as high as it is considering his lack of selectivity at the plate. His hand/eye coordination is extraordinary. His Offense Efficiency Rating however, would rise with more discipline. It seems unreasonable to level criticism at a hitter with a .440 batting average. But hitting better pitches would raise his average.
