Sebastian Shimizu '25 Recruiting Profile

My name is Sebastian Shimizu, and I am an 18-year-old Baseball player from Queensland, Australia. 

I started playing the sport of baseball with my Dad when I was 6 years old and knew that is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life almost immediately. When we would visit our family in Japan, I would hear and see what an amazing player my Dad was, and the hours of training and dedication he devoted to the sport, and that inspired me to become the player I am today.

To me, baseball isn’t just a team sport, it is a family, and I would do anything for family. Whether that means staying back at practice for 5 more hours, or having to catch a bus, a train, then walk to the field for training, I am devoted to the sport and devoted to my family. I believe that a good team player doesn’t just show their support on the field, but they bring that moral wherever they are, to anything they do, and that is what I practice 24/7. I have a strong sense of passion for the game as it has given me structure, discipline, and respect that I will carry indefinitely.

I completed my education up to Year 11 at Villanova College in Queensland Australia. In February of 2024, I was fortunate enough to have been provided the opportunity to spend 6 months at Takeda Senior High School in Hiroshima Japan, where I was able to further pursue the sport of baseball alongside the Takeda High School Zebra’s Team. I am beyond grateful to all the coaches and teammates who shaped the way in which I view and practice this sport, and for all the support they have given me.

To date, some of my top achievements are:

• 2021 – U14 QLD School Boys Team (Merit team due to COVID)
• 2022 – U18 QLD School Boys Team (as a 15-year-old rookie winning gold at Nationals)
• 2021 & 2023 U14 and U16 (bronze) Nationals Little League Pathways representing Metro QLD
• 2023 – U16 Australian Youth Championships representing QLD
• 2023 – Australian representative for the Downunder Travellers Puerto Rico Tour

I am a strong hitter and able to utilise 90 degrees of the field. Playing the position of catcher has given me ample opportunity to study the game of baseball, and therefore make observations. I have come to realise the importance of not only the physical component of the game, but also the mental and intellectual aspects.

As an International student, I would be honoured to attend a college anywhere geographically. Academically, I have an interest in studying Business and Mathematics, as well as STEM (Science). My athletic goal is to play baseball in the Major League and in the future coach young people like myself, and help them achieve their goals too.
