Currently, I am dual-enrolled at Cape Fear Community College where 100% of my high school classes count as college courses. In my first year, I maintained a 4.0 GPA and made the President's List consecutive semesters at the college. My GPA is well over a 4.0 with all of my honors, AP and college classes. Upon my high school graduation, I will also obtain an Associates Degree in Science.
The game of baseball consumes me and I have an intense passion for the game. It hasn't been until the last few years, however, that I had the realization and encouragement that with hard work, I could potentially become a collegiate athlete. Knowing that nothing worthwhile comes without cost, I vigorously challenged myself to improve and excel. My name is Caden Lang and I am a 6'0", 180-pound utility player, and I desire to be at a school with a team-oriented baseball program. On my Jr. Legion team last year, I batted .345 and drove in 13 runs in 11 games.
I consider myself the "lunch-pail guy" who shows up, plays up and most importantly, understands the strategy of the game. I consider myself a head smart player who thinks two plays ahead and puts myself in position to be an asset to the game. I have to work hard at everything and this builds tenacity. I don’t accept mediocrity and I will work harder than anyone to progress and exceed. For example, I work on my skills every day on top of practice. Even when I don't have a team practice, I drill at home and attend private coaching (primarily Fletcher Bates at Coastal Athletics) to further advance my level of play. My determination includes making sacrifices to enhance my game. Currently, I play for Sr. Legion Post 265 in Jacksonville, NC and I drive an hour to attend practices. I’ve been described as a hard working athlete, a humble competitor, and, most importantly, coaches say I’m coachable. I not only listen to, but also implement, suggestions from my coaches on how I can improve my game.
Some basketball player’s are described as “gym rats”. They are committed to strengthening their skills by daily workouts in the gym. That’s how I am with baseball; I rigorously work on my skills every day. In addition to working hard, I’m a team player. I’m constantly calling out directions and encouraging my teammates. In fact, I was recognized by my high school coach and received the Leadership Award for my 2018 Varsity Baseball season.
I am fiercely committed to understanding every aspect of baseball and this mental discipline is exhibited in my GPA. What I'm most proud of, however, is my work ethic, which drives me to pursue excellence in all I do. I eagerly arrive first to the field and am the last one to leave. I study countless hours for school so I can maintain straight A’s. Along with baseball, I also play varsity basketball. Helping coach my younger brother's baseball team and volunteering my time at a local retirement home are important to me as well.
