I believe I am well prepared to continue my education and my baseball career at the college level. I hope that when you consider me as a recruit for your program that you see the whole picture of the type of student-athlete that I am. I am motivated by challenge and have a keen recognition of my strengths in the classroom and on the field, as well as how to apply them in real-world situations. I am interested in Business Education because I think a career in business would capitalize on the skills I have developed through my life experiences.
I have always loved the game of baseball, and while there have been significant accomplishments it is sometimes the lows that help you to grow as an athlete. During my 8th grade season I had knee surgery. Sitting out of the game I love made me realize that playing baseball in college is truly what I want to do. It was an eye opening experience that taught me a lot about life and the way that I approach each and every opportunity. I learned the importance of hard work through rehabilitating my knee, getting my body strong again, and keeping up my baseball skills. Perhaps even more importantly, it taught me how to be mentally tough. Sitting out tested me far more than any academic or athletic goal I’ve ever set. No matter how tough games get or hard school can be, I know not to get down on myself because I can work through any situation. My knee injury was tough, but it also was one of the most beneficial. It made me a stronger person on and off the baseball field.
I have also faced challenges in the classroom. At age 11, I was diagnosed with Dyslexia. My brain works differently than other students’ but I have never let it limit my education. I’ve taken honors classes and earned good grades in an academically challenging school. My test scores don’t always represent my understanding of a subject, but I love to discuss and debate just about any topic. I have figured out the ways that I learn best and gained the ability to advocate for myself. Through my hard work I have been able to accomplish a lot that I am proud of despite my learning disability. It is a part of who I am and the dedicated student-athlete I have become. Baseball has been an excellent outlet for me to test these skills where I am most comfortable. I see myself as a leader on the field and I think that much of the hard work my learning disability requires carries over to my athletics.
