I’ve been a ballplayer since I was a toddler. I insisted on being a baseball player every Halloween since my older brother started playing T-ball. When it was finally my turn to sign up for a team, I was ecstatic, but imagine my chagrin when I quickly realized not everyone was as serious about the game as I was. The daydreamers who didn’t know where to throw the ball was a serious source of angst for my 5-year-old self. Didn’t they *all* spend every minute they could studying anything baseball they could affix their eyes to: MLB games, college games, softball games even, and older brothers’ little league games?
Luckily, twelve years later, I get play with athletes now who share my passion and boast a much higher baseball IQ than those T-ballers kicking dirt in the outfield. Everyone will tell you I’m a good teammate; I take responsibility for the energy on the field and in the dugout, and I’m the one talking guys up after a rough inning or at bat. As catcher, my pitchers know to expect a mound visit by me to hype them up or calm them down as needed.
My work ethic off the field shows on the field. I am very devoted to my training and I put in the work every day to get better and stronger. With two brothers who are professional athletes and another who played college football, I know what it takes to be successful. In my room I have a white board on which I keep quotes and track of progress, and if I ever don’t feel like lifting, it reminds me that someone who wants my spot is getting stronger today, and that’s enough to motivate me.
I pride myself on being a leader, both on and off the field. In school, I was elected House Captain and served as House Athletic Director. I also volunteer for Moeller’s Little Buddies program, where I mentor at-risk elementary school students from inner-city neighborhoods. I am challenging myself this year with AP and Honors classes, and I currently have a 3.5 GPA.
My goal is to play college baseball while obtaining a degree in business and/or aviation. After college and baseball, I plan to follow in my father’s footsteps and become an airline pilot. Flying is like baseball, it’s part of who I am. I’m looking forward to flying a jet overhead and being a distraction to T-ball outfielders across the country.
