My name is Ben Powers, and I'm a junior at Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. As a two-year varsity starter and now team captain, baseball is more than just a sport to me. It's a passion that pushes me to excel both on and off the field. My goal is to continue playing competitive baseball at the highest collegiate level I can while pursuing a major in either engineering or business.
My academic record is an example of my dedication and discipline. I am ranked 3rd in my class with a 3.98 unweighted and 4.51 weighted GPA in an honors/AP curriculum, and I understand the importance of balancing athletics and academics. I believe the same work ethic that fuels my academic success as a student translates directly to my performance as an athlete.
What sets me apart as a recruit is a combination of maturity, vision, and leadership, paired with an unwavering work ethic. As team captain, I strive to lead by example, curating a positive and competitive environment. I believe the best way to succeed is to be prepared ahead of time. I implemented this idea into Roger Bacon's baseball program by advocating for and planning morning lifts for the team before classes. My vision extends beyond individual performance, focusing on team cohesion and excellence is the only way to have consistent success as a program.
Beyond the field and classroom, I am deeply committed to serving my community. I've founded a service club at Roger Bacon dedicated to feeding and ministering to the homeless in our area. This initiative reflects my belief in using my abilities to make a real difference in the lives of others. I am a person who values compassion and action. I believe that shows in my attitude towards my teammates, coaches, and others.
In terms of athletics, I am a player who consistently strives for improvement. I am coachable, receptive to feedback, and dedicated to perfecting my skills. I understand that success is built on a foundation of hard work and perseverance. I am not afraid to put in the extra hours, whether it's in the cages, the weight room, or the classroom.
My collegiate aspirations include contributing to a winning baseball program and excelling academically. I am seeking a challenging environment that will push me to reach my full potential as a student-athlete. I believe my commitment to excellence, my leadership qualities, and my dedication to service make me a strong recruit for your team. I am confident that I can bring a blend of character, athleticism, and academic achievement to your program.
