When I was 10 years old, my team was interviewed on a local sports radio show, and I was asked what I liked most about baseball. My simple answer, “the competition,” still holds. I love the physical and mental challenge of the game, on and off the field. I compete with myself to improve each day, even when faced with adversity. My eighth-grade season was cut short when I broke my thumb. Though disappointed to miss the last few weeks of the season, I refocused and found ways to contribute and continue to improve. I helped with warmups and drills, threw BP, coached first base, and learned how to support my team in new ways. I continued my mindset training, lifting, and any drills I could do without my injured hand. When the splint came off, I was ready to compete.
I take this same approach in my academics. The classes I’ve enjoyed the most have been the most challenging. In addition to my high school classes, I have had the opportunity to take summer STEM camps in toxicology, computer programming, robotics, 3D computer graphics, and transportation engineering. These experiences have made me even more eager to challenge myself in college and helped me refine my interests in college majors like business, engineering, and biology.
I value being part of the Corvallis High School athletic community. I’ve had great coaches for basketball, wrestling, and baseball, and am grateful for the skills they have shared and the support they have provided. I appreciate learning our school history and working with younger players. I enjoy being part of ‘field days’ and fundraisers that have helped improve the batting cages and fields. I look for a college program that will challenge me academically and athletically while enabling memorable experiences with my teammates and community.
