Baseball has always been my sport. According to my father, when I was barely old enough to walk I would beg to sit with him at bedtime and fall asleep to the Pittsburgh Pirates games on television.
Through my youth, I have tried many other sports – soccer, football, basketball and hockey to name a few. While I enjoyed all these sports (except soccer) for the teamwork and competition, baseball remained the sport that I was passionate about.
When I was 12 years old, I suffered from a brain abscess which not only threatened my baseball career but also my life. During my 32 days in the hospital, which included brain surgery, the game of baseball was my rock. The visits from my teammates as well as a very special visit from Pirates outfielder, Andrew McCutchen, inspired me to fight to get better.
Looking beyond my high school years, I can’t imagine baseball not being part of my life. Every year I grow fonder of this sport I love.
I am looking for the opportunity to contribute to a high quality program by maximizing my athletic potential while prospering academically.
