I am Carlos A. Rodríguez from Ponce Puerto Rico. I’m 17 years old and a high school senior. I’m the youngest in my family; I have one brother and one sister, both of them are college students. We all went to a Private Catholic High School, Colegio Ponceño in Ponce, Puerto Rico. I have being playing baseball, since I was a little kid. I have represented my hometown, Ponce eight times in different categories. Representing Puerto Rico, I have had the opportunity to travel to different states, like Illinois and Texas, to play baseball. While I was traveling to America, I realized that I wanted to live outside of Puerto Rico, because I want to become independent, learn new things and grow as a player.
My dream always has been to become a Major League Baseball player. I have been training, practicing and playing for years now, and I know that I have a long way to go, but I am confident that someday, I will live my dream.
The next step to reach my goal is to go to college, become a professional while playing the sport that I love. I will like to study in United States because I will have experiences and opportunities that I could not have in my hometown. When I played on tournaments in the United States, I had the opportunity to play against teams of different countries and I liked the atmosphere, the professionalism and the way we were treated, although we were youngsters. I want to study in America because I want to learn to do things differently and then, when I return to Puerto Rico, I can make the difference and help my country to become a better place to live.
