Personal Statement

My name is Kody Fretts and I am a member of Village Green Charter School Class of 2024 located in Providence, RI. Village Green does not have a sports program, so I am playing my Senior year with West Warwick High School, in West Warwick, RI. As college decisions are just around the corner there are a lot of options and things to consider when having to make choices when continuing my student-athlete career. As I prepare to enter college I know that I want to enter a field in which I can help people and my community. Coming from a service oriented family, I have a sense of duty to others before myself. Whether I choose to peruse criminal justice or another public service field, I want to find a college that will help me reach that goal and become a productive member of the my community.

With that sense of community comes team, and that is one of the tools that will help me become a successful part of a college baseball program. As I continue to grow and learn in this game, I have found that a team is only as strong as its players want it to be. I am willing to do whatever I can to help my team members out.  If that means staying later to take ground balls with a team mate, I am there to help do that. If it’s not my turn to pitch, I am there to support the pitcher on the mound in the field however  I can. If I can help someone get a little bit better through support, it betters the team all around. I am also finding this is helping me learn to become a leader and to step into those types of roles.

I have also learned from an early age that hard work and goal setting are very important not only  as a member of a team, but also in life. When I was 10 years old, my dad took me to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, to watch the Little World Series. I remember watching one of the games at night and I remember my dad telling me that if I ever wanted to play on that field, that I would have to work hard for it. Two years later, when I was 12, I was playing for Coventry, RI, as team New England in the 2018 Little League World Series. Through hard work, dedication, and dedicated teammates, that goal became a reality and a mindset I carry now. I like to set long term and short term goals, both athletically and academically, and set marks to get there. There will always be setbacks along the way, but my desire to succeed pushes me to constantly reach my goals.

When I look at myself, I feel that I am a strong willed player that will be an asset to a college baseball program.  I am a mentally smart player that will put in the work both on the physical side and the thinking aspect as well. In the end, I work hard to be a better person at the end of the day.

Thank you,

Kody Fretts

  • 2022 NORTHEAST TOP PROSPECT GAMES @ RUTGERS Kody Fretts is a 2024 3B/RHP/1B with a 6-1 185 lb. frame from Coventry, RI who attends Coventry. Fretts works from a broader build with athleticism present. From the IF, he showcased a deep fielding funnel with range up the middle displaying consistency to the mechanics to produce accurate throws across the diamond. He flashed a reliable glove and ultimately projects as a corner IF. On the mound, Fretts used a quicker tempo and lower 3/4 slot to generate natural arm side run on the FB up to 81 mph. The natural movement produced tons of weak contact and efficient outs with the ability to drop a slurvy breaker on command for swing and miss. Offensively, he started from a narrower stance with hover present in the leg load, firing the hands for a compact line drive stroke with evident carry and backspin. Fretts clearly swings a heavy barrel, posting an exit velo of 89 mph. Ran a 7.64 sixty yard dash. Good student.

  • Kody Fretts: 3B/RHP, (2024)out of Coventry, RI. is a physical 6-foot, 190-pound prospect. In the box, the switch hitter had an impressive exit velocity of 95 MPH, with a (71.30 MPH bat speed average) and (24.18 MPH hand speed average). He hits out of a balanced, athletic stance with relaxed hands. A controlled load allows him to hit from a strong position. The bat head takes a long, flat path through the hitting zone, utilizing the pull side during his round. In the infield, Fretts was up to 76 MPH on his throws across the diamond. As he worked through the ground balls, he showed consistent smooth feet, a clean exchange, and sure hands. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.47. On the mound, Fretts uses a simple, easy delivery to deliver a fastball that sits 76-79 MPH with late run. He stacks over the back leg before heading down the mound with good direction. Fretts also showed off a good 12/6 curveball (68-70 MPH.

  • Kody is a RHP prospect who will graduate in 2024. On the mound, Kody shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 74mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 63-64mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 67-68mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Gathering to a balance point over the rubber can help Kody be more controlled throughout his delivery. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid to load and drives through well with his lower half. He stays direct through the ball and produces consistent contact and line drives. Kody can barrel up more baseballs by keeping his hands compact in his load. Overall, Kody is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.
