2021 Spotlight #2
2021 SpotlightHello, my name is Caleb Martin. I was born on August 22, 2002 in Abilene, Texas, where I am currently a Senior at Cooper High School. I am 5’ 10” and 150 lbs. My primary position is OF but I have played a lot of middle infield over the years, and have batted lead off most of my career. I would describe myself as a fast player that can hit for average with a good OBP and can track down balls and make plays on defense. From very early on in my life, around just 3 or 4 years old, I fell in love with sports, playing soccer, basketball, football, baseball, and all kinds of backyard sports with my family and friends. However, through the years my love for the game of baseball outshined the rest, and I chose to pursue it beyond high school. I would say my father has had the biggest influence on me as an athlete, because he has always been willing to help me in whatever I pursued, he has coached me since I was little, has never hesitated to provide me with anything I needed, like equipment or even a pre-game snack, and went out of his way to watch some games that were too far out of town for anyone else to watch. I’ve worked hard the past few years to earn my position on my team, where there was plenty of talent ahead of me at the beginning, but by putting in work in and out of class I was noticed and given a chance on Varsity my sophomore year, where I proved I could excel at the next level, and earned a 1st Team All-District title in the OF as well as being ranked a BCP top 10 outfielder to watch in the 2020 season. This unfortunately was lost due to Covid-19, but I continued working hard, like hitting the batting cages between classes at school, and am very ready and excited for the upcoming season. Off the field, I have always kept good grades and I would say I am usually quieter and more of a listener. On the field, though, I am noticed as louder than most because I like to get fired up and hype up my teammates. I’ve always felt my teams and I have played best when everyone is very involved and excited to be out there playing the game.
Respectfully- Caleb Martin
