Personal Statement

My name is Carlos Jr. Martinez. I live on a farm in a small town called Falfurrias. We are a small Texas community with a deep generational passion for baseball. I can’t imagine my life without baseball. Everything I do , involves baseball. In my town, I am characterized as “The Baseball Player.” Many in my community know about my athletic accomplishments because I am a consistent and reliable player. I am a good teammate that encourages productive outcomes in the game no matter the score. Everyone knows they can relax when I step up to the plate because I am going to take the win or go down fighting to the last second. As a championship pitcher and closer, my tempo drives a fun and entertaining sports competition with opportunity for a lot of action and highlight plays. My tempo keeps everyone engaged and wanting more. At the end of the day, if I am playing baseball, I am happy.

Carlos was allowed to play up on the16U Falfurrias Pony team for pitching only. Carlos closed game 1 of 2 in against 16U Laredo Pony League. Carlos pitched the top of the 5th inning to close. His tempo is fast and strategic allowing no runs scored. Falfurrias advanced to Abilene to compete for State Finals. See video.

Carlos competed with the 13u USA Diablos O14 team, this team has been together since the boys were 5 years old. Carlos joined them at age 10. This team does not pick up players for big tournaments. The contest is a true assessment of team growth and development at the end of the year. Sometimes we loose on the score board, but at the end of the day, we take home a personal win of patience, process, determination, and mental toughness. We got slaughtered in pool play for some reason. Sense of defeat is not in Carlos’s approach and momentum. He stays calm and confident. He is usually the first one on the field. During this tournament Carlos was a high producer. He faced high caliber pitching and turned out solid productive at bats. He successfully pitched in 3 of the 5 games. His fielding was on point . He made 1 fielding error after coming off a 7 inning pitching game to cover third. Sometimes it takes his mind a few minutes to reset positions. He was able to recoup and move on. The same day we got off the plane in Texas, he went from the airport to practice, for 15 and 16 Pony ball All Stars. He is playing up this season. They are headed to Abeline to compete for State.
