My name is Caleb Foster, I am 5'7'' and weigh 130 pounds. I have been playing baseball as long as I can remember, and I love nothing more than to complete and be a solid teammate. My strengths are base-running and fast hands. I have worked really hard on my hands and feet to always put myself in a position to make the play. I have developed a feel for the game and have improved my baseball IQ to always look for ways to get outs. I live and play with strong character and integrity and believe that is just as important as how one plays.
I have always been a strong bat in the lineup, left side dominant, and am developing as a switch hitter. Many seasons I have had the opportunity as lead off and find a way to get on base and do the job that needs to be done in the situation to best help the team.
I have literally played all positions, but am most at home on second base. Despite little history in the outfield, I was asked to give center a chance on my summer team. I embraced the opportunity and now count center as another one of my more effective positions. I believe that after playing so many different positions, I have become a much more aware player and better base runner. My reads are better, and my jumps are quicker. In 2019 I led my high school team in stolen bases and was the offensive player of the year.
I am extremely motivated to play baseball in college. I have taken a heavy course load in my junior year and try to challenge myself on the field and in the classroom. I also do as much community service as my schedule allows, and enjoy serving. I am more than aware that there is excellent baseball to be played in all divisions of the NCAA. I am really looking for a forum where I can continue to grow under experienced coaches while playing at a high level of competitive baseball.
Regarding school size, I am naturally leaning towards a smaller school. I am the type of student that is constantly in communication with my teachers, and I do not want that level of intimacy to be lost on a large campus. However, I do look forward to going on many more college visits, so this preference may change. Geographically, I am interested in playing somewhere in or near Texas, because I am from Dallas / Fort Worth, and I know how important it is to be within a short car or plane ride from your family at any given time. However, if the right opportunity presented itself, I would chose the path that sported the best coaches and most competitive baseball, regardless of the location.
I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to read my personal statement, and good luck in the upcoming baseball season.
