I have always tried to be better than what I think I can be. I chose to go to a tough college prep HS (Marquette University) as I knew the rigor of the classes would challenge me academically and athletically. I could have taken the easy route and went to the local HS and probably have gotten straight A's, and be only somewhat challenged. It was the same athletically. Going to a HS where all the coaches knew me since I was little was the easy way. Playing sports for Marquette I've had to prove myself all over again. I had to be better than I thought I could be...I had to challenge myself. I have had this drive ever since I can remember.
I am reminded of a situation when I was just starting to play tackle football that shows my drive to be challenged. I was just starting to play tackle football (5th grade). The team did a tug of war drill with only two players. The players got to choose who they wanted to go up against. Now in 5th grade I was smaller kid...but had some muscle. Well, when asked who I wanted to go up against instead of picking someone my own size, I picked the biggest kid on the team and he was BIG. Everyone was shocked, but I told the coach, I know that he will outweigh me by far, but I can win if I am quicker than him and catch him off guard. Did I win all of the time...heck no, but what fun would that be?
This is why I would love to play College baseball, it is the next step to be challenged. I am a very versatile player, as I consider myself an all around athlete, and not just a baseball player. I am a team player, and will do anything needed for the team. I have been told that I am a leader, even though I don't intentionally put myself into that position..it just happens.
A quote that I like is "Your talent is Gods gift to you, what you do with it is your gift back to God" Leo Buscaglia.
