Personal Statement
Character may be defined as one of the attributes or features that make up and distinguish an individual. Having a positive, passionate character and strong work ethic, whether on the athletic field, in the classroom, or on the job, describes me. Being responsible, respectful, trustworthy, fair, and caring are traits which I possess.
Evidence of my character is best summed up by being nominated and accepted as a National Honor Society (NHS) member. NHS represents the whole person I am; demonstrating character, scholarship, leadership, and service. I have enjoyed the many aspects and challenges of school and have worked hard to be a good student, to make the right choices and have a good reputation, to be a good athlete and positive role model for others. School and community involvements have helped me gain respect from teachers, coaches, parents, peers and community members. Participation in NHS, athletics, FFA, 4-H, Big Brother/Big Sister program, Honor Programs, as well as other clubs and volunteer activities, have added to my leadership abilities and character. Being a hard worker who is dedicated and willing to learn and be responsible have shown that I am a quality student, athlete, employee, and well-rounded person.
When reflecting upon my academic and school life, I see myself as a problem solver and team player â?? one who takes the lead and gets along will with others. I am respectful and respected, flexible and tolerant. Helping others in the classroom, meeting deadlines, encouraging group members, listening to teachers, cleaning up garbage around the hallways, sticking up for someone who may be being picked on, and seeing people for who they are, provide examples of my character. Pursuing an education in physical education, athletic training and possibly exercise science will give me opportunities to continue to work with others and be positive role model in the lives of others.
In the athletic part of my life keeping a positive attitude is imperative. When things arenâ??t going my way and I realize that itâ??s time to step up to be the leader, I meet with my coaches, one-on-one, to learn how to overcome obstacles for myself and teammates and I encourage others to do the same. Other examples of leadership include being voted team captain, being a three sport letter winner, receiving the coachâ??s award, and being nominated all-conference, all Northwest, player of the game and Cloverbelt Scholar-Athlete. At all times I have maintained a GPA of 3.74 or higher and received academic letters every semester of my high school career. These achievements make me very proud. My desire is to continue to play baseball once I finish high school.
My teammates and peers respect my good reputation and trust my judgment. In todayâ??s world there are a lot of negative influences pulling at teens. Alcohol and drug use, and inappropriate social networking, etcetera, are a few of the many ways teens feel they can escape reality and fit in. Avoiding all of those negative influences and maintaining integrity have helped me to be successful. I can say with confidence that I have a positive character. I am thankful to be considered by others as a positive role model in the community, athletics and academics. I lead by example and this, I feel, is the best way to motivate others!
