Cheerleading is more than just pom poms, a cheerleader should be recognized for their determination and dedication. I initially started cheering when I was eight years old. As a cheerleader, I have learned to make no excuses. In the face of obstacles and trials, I push through my doubts instead of letting them consume me. My eight years of cheerleading have greatly challenged this ideal in the form of mental blocks, burnout, and injuries. But by showing up to every practice giving my all, I have strengthed my confidence in myself and my abilities.
I was able to endure each cheer season due to the support of my family and team. Cheer has taught me the importance of creating strong bonds with others. To build others up but to also rely on them. In my freshman season of cheerleading, I started with a big group of unknown faces and a reserved character. My teammates and coaches have created a safe space for me to make mistakes and grow. In return, I put my full trust in them and devoted all my time afterschool to perfect my skills. I ended my sophomore season as a JV Co-Captain and an ILH JV Runner Up, making many fond memories and milestones.
As a student-athlete, I have aspirations outside of cheerleading that I pursue with great pride. Along with my passion for cheer, I have a passion for the performing arts. I have been a part of my schools Choir since 2019 and participated in various acting workshops, choir concerts, and theater productions. I lead on the mat and in the classroom, by maintaining a 4.0 since middle school and by being an Student Body Government officer since 2019. Looking ahead at a possible career choice, I pursue the Journalism major to utilize my acting and public speaking skills.
As a cheerleader, I am not limited by the stereotypes imposed on the sport I play. My drive and discipline in everything I do has allowed me to excel in my sport, passions, and studies. I believe that if put on a collegiate cheerleading team, I will bring forward the high-spirit energy and commitment needed to succeed. I will be open to take on any challenges head-first and will be versatile and flexible to perform where needed. Cheerleading has been a huge aspect of my life and I hope to continue this achievement and spend my college years doing the things I love.
