Hello I'm Tyler Wedl, a 16 year old Junior out of Lecompton, Kansas. I am a Coed Base and a Back Spot for All-Girl Cheer. While I have been only been cheering since about October of 2023, the amount of time and effort i have dedicated to the sport is admirable and has jumpstarted my cheer career immensely. My highest skill performed currently is a toss extension hands cupie, which I have thrown with multiple flyers of varying experience. The reason i had gotten into cheer and Coed in general was the obscenely cool stunts thrown by College athletes (Sosa Thomas, Leo Borjas, Alex Bouhuys, ect.) This spark of interest drove me to work extremely hard to mimic the stunts I had seen. In middle October of 2023, I had tried coed stunting for the first time at an open gym hosted and directed by the folks at Washburn University. Here i had first learned my toss hands and fell in love with the sport. Fast forward to December or so and I had reached out to some local colleges and general cheer groups through Facebook and got the chance to chat with Sosa Thomas and introduce me to LGA (Lawrence Gymnastics Academy) which hosts open gyms every Tuesday and Wednesday Night. At these Gyms some of the Kansas University Cheerleaders, Washburn University, and occasionally Navarro College cheerleaders will attend. This is where I learned essentially all of my Cheerleading skills.
Academically I am considered a very gifted student with high 90th percentiles on my testing scores (WorkKeys, Practice ACTs, PreACTs, State Assessment) and have been enrolled in at least one honors class if not more every single year since 8th grade. I am currently enrolled in College Algebra, AP US History, and AP Language and Composition, and will be enrolled in AP Computer Science Principles, AP Literature, AP US Government, AP Chemistry, and College Statistics. My current GPA for the semester is a 3.1429 Unweighted and a 3.5714 Weighted. For the entire first semester I was also handling two separate jobs and working 4-5 days a week. I have taken an ACT prep class which had brought my ACT up from about a 31 composite from the beginning of the semester up to a 34 scoring a 36 on both the Reading and Science Reasoning portion of the ACT. I do plan to study Computer Science with an emphasis on Cybersecurity in college while going for a full 4 years.
I am a 2-sport athlete as i am the Varsity and State Pole-Vaulter for my school. I use this sport to improve my explosiveness as well as work on the coordination needed for both sports respectively. Even when there are no sports going on throughout the summer, I indulge myself in the art of bodybuilding and powerlifting which had given me a huge head start when beginning cheer. My physical ability as an athlete had aided me immensely when first starting out since I had the overall strength necessary for many skill that could take others a large portion of their time working up to. I have been very health focused since about 2019 in which I had undergone a weight loss transformation and had began my weightlifting journey. With this I have strived for many goals that I have accomplished and many goals I plan to accomplish in the future on top of the other Cheer, Financial, and Scholastic Goals I have in mind.
I thank every coach that has gave and will give me these fantastic opportunities and thank you for your time.
