Personal Statement
My name is Mykaylah Lopez-Torres. I am currently a sophomore at Annapolis High School part of their APEX arts program. I am registered for honors classes in all the core subjects and currently hold a 4.3 GPA. I am on the varsity cheer squad and hope to continue cheering in college. I am a hardworker and dedicated to my sport and academics.
A little bit about my history, I started gymnastics when I was 3 years old. At 5 years old, I was recruited to be on the Acrobatic Gymnastics team for Realis by hall of fame acrobat gymnast, Ryan Ward. I continued to compete in acrobatic gymnastics when my family moved to Maryland. Here as part of the 1st Class Acro team my group was placed on the National Team for USA Gymnastics. With that group, I was the top (flier), we qualified to be Team USA at the World Acrobatic Gymnastics Age Group Competition. Acro does not go to the Olympics so the World competition is the highest level of competition for that sport. I also represented the USA in Switzerland, Canada, and Belgium. In 2018, I got an infection in my hip that had me in the hospital for a week. I came back from that surgery to compete at the 13-19 Junior Elite level. We placed third at the US Gymnastics Nationals in 2019. Coming back from that surgery that was not due to any injury I took from the sport had its struggles but I made that come back because I knew that I could. After that, I have been dancing competitively at a dance studio. I continued to work on my acro skills in dance and incorporated many of my skills into our dance routines. I found cheer in high school and have fallen in love with the sport. A lot of acro skills and flexibility have helped me to become a great flier for my squad.
I appreciate the time you have spent looking at my profile and would welcome a call or email to get to know you and your program better.
