Throughout my early cheer career, I have always been the younger athlete on my higher level teams. My older team were always very supportive and contributed to my love of the sport. Through the years, I became one of the “older” athletes on my teams. I wanted the younger athletes to feel the same support that I did. Now, I always strive to be a good role model to the younger girls and make our cheer gym a comfortable and fun environment. Respect and encouragment can make a much more positive impact than criticizing and irritation when one of my teammates struggles or makes a mistake. I have learned the importance of support and teamwork, and plan to continue and apply this mindset into college.
